Heel spurs are small, bony growths that form on the bottom of the heel bone. They often develop over time due to strain on the foot muscles and ligaments, especially where the plantar fascia (the thick band of tissue under your foot) connects to the heel. While the spur itself isn’t always painful, it’s often linked to plantar fasciitis, which can cause sharp heel pain—especially with the first steps in the morning.
