Posterior tibialis tendinitis is a common foot and ankle condition that happens when the posterior tibial tendon—a key tendon that runs along the inside of your ankle and foot—becomes inflamed or irritated. This tendon helps support the arch of your foot and lets you push off when walking or running. When it’s overused or injured, it can lead to pain, swelling, and even flattening of the arch.
